Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Through the Sustainable WASH (SWASH-09) Initiatives, we expand access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities while promoting hygiene practices. Using Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), we have helped villages achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, built latrines, and rehabilitated boreholes—dramatically reducing waterborne diseases and improving dignity, especially for women and girls.
SWASH 8: Sustainable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project
KAPDA, in partnership with GOAL, implemented the Sustainable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (SWASH 8) Project
over a period of 2.5 years in 11 sub-counties of Kaabong District: Kaabong East, Kathile, Timu, Kamion, Lodiko, Lolelia, Kaabong West, Kakamar, Lobongia, Morungole, and Loyoro.
The project aimed to increase access to safe water, improve sanitation coverage, and promote sustainable hygiene practices among households, schools, and communities across the district.

Sustainable WASH (SWASH-09) Initiatives – Building Healthier, Safer, and Resilient Communities
In rural Karamoja, access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is not a given—it’s a daily struggle. Many families walk long distances for unsafe water, while open defecation remains a common practice, fueling preventable diseases like diarrhea and typhoid. The Sustainable WASH (SWASH-09) Initiatives, implemented by the Karamoja Peace and Development Agency (KAPDA) with support from GOAL, are changing this reality through community-driven solutions.
